About BOLD

BOLD (Bright Opportunities for the Learning Disabled) prepares students with learning disabilities and their families for post-high school life.  We offer a range of services helping to prepare students for this important transition. 

  • Looking Ahead to College:
    Workshop for Students

     

    Students will spend a few hours working with two experienced educators who understand the different paths to college.  Some topics include:

    · College planning timelines

    · Pros & cons of two and four year colleges

    · Application processes

    · SAT vs. ACT

    · The Personal Statement & Essays

    · Testing accommodations

    ·  Family involvement in the process

     

 

MORNING SESSION FOR STUDENTS:

Saturdays October 18 & 25, 9 AM—12 PM

AFTERNOON SESSION FOR STUDENTS:

Saturdays October 18 & 25, 1 PM—4 PM

COMBINED PARENT MEETING:

Thursday October 16 7:30—8:30 PM

Workshop Leaders:

Rebecca Field Ed.M. 

Rebecca is an experienced and compassionate  teacher and administrator.  She holds degrees from Vassar College, the Harvard Graduate School of Education and earned a certificate in College Admissions and Career Planning from UC Berkeley.  She has worked for over fifteen years as a high school and middle school teacher, school administrator, and leader. 

Rebecca currently works as the College Advisor and Vocational Coordinator at Bayhill High School in Oakland, a high school for students with learning disabilities.  Previously she worked as the Career and College Advisor at Orion Academy in Moraga, which specializes in meeting the needs of students with Asperger's Syndrome and/or Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities.

 

Mark Goodenough, J.D.

Mark has taught in a variety of educational settings and currently teaches Literature at Orion Academy in Moraga.  He holds a degree in English Education from the University of Georgia, and a Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School. 

He also coaches students on time management, college planning, and academic skills as part of Student Organizational Services (SOS) in Walnut Creek.  Mark's experience with and understanding of students' unique abilities informs a philosophy that combines students' needs with pragmatic outcomes.
